The idea for this site was to create a centralized show listing website where it's the people who set up the shows, not the site's author, that keep it up to date, and while we're at it, cross-reference everything so it's easy to search through.
All of the information on this site is stored in a database, which makes it easy to search and cross-reference things. You can search the listings of shows, bands, and venues through the links in the top left. So far you can search shows by the state they're in, the venue they're at, or the bands that are playing. Some of the band and venue names will be highlighted, which means that they have a profile in the database that you can view by clicking the name. When you look at a venue's or band's profile, you will see their info, plus a list of all the upcoming shows they have.
If you're in a band, in charge of a venue, or setting up a show, add a listing. As much of a pain in the ass it is, you have to register with the site before you can post, but this way you (and only you) can edit any of the listings you've posted at any time to keep them up to date.

I wanted to make this thing as easy to use as possible. If you have any comments, feedback, or suggestions for how to make it more intuitive, drop me an email at mike@halfmytime.com.
This site is an idea that I've had that I've been wanting to do for years, since at least 2000, but through a combination of not having enough time, and getting frustrated too easily with minor setbacks, I worked on it less and less and eventually put down the project altogether. Then in January 2003 I found myself unemployed, which gave me an awful lot of time on my hands, and I got inspired to give it another shot. I pretty-much started over, this time concentrating only on the core functionality, ignoring all the frills and "oooh I could do this too" features I want to add eventually. At this point it's still not finished, and it's not really even that pretty, but it's finally at a point where I think it's ready to start listing shows for people. I hope you like it.
Most of my immediate plans for the site involve making the profiles more comprensive. Next step is bios for bands, directions for venues, and a "say whatever you want here" area for users. Eventually I want to let bands upload an mp3 or two, and maybe even post news and stuff for themselves, make each band profile enough of a mini-website that bands that didn't want to go through the trouble of creating their own full-blown website can just use their profile.
I'd also like to let users set up a default search that executes as soon as they log in, just to make it quicker to get at the shows you want to see. I'd like to do more customization in general. I've tried to do as much of the layout with CSS as I could, so I think it would be cool to have several different styles that people could choose from.
Other ideas I have that are a little farther off are more community-building things that I think would be pretty cool. I'd like to let people and bands link to their favorite bands in their profile, kind of like livejournal's friends feature. This would open the door to rankings of most popular bands and all kinds of crazy crap like that. The possibilities are limitless really. I'm pretty stoked.
I've never been too big a fan of message boards, and I feel like there are plenty of them out there already. I might eventually get talked into adding one, but there's a lot of other features that I want to add that have a higher priority right now.
